Houston’s New Mayor Needs To Be An Advocate For Environmental Health

On December 9th, Houstonians elected John Whitmire as the city’s next mayor. Leading up to election day, both candidates for Mayor had said they supported environmental justice, but as the Houston Chronicle pointed out, the mayor’s powers on environmental issues are somewhat limited.

This week, the Chronicle published a letter to the editor from THEA Founder and CEO Jackie Medcalf stressing that we all need a mayor who is an advocate for cleaning up the Superfund and other toxic waste sites that threaten our communities.
