Community Concern Grows Over Jones Road Superfund Site
November 15, 2022 - Despite EPA warnings that private wells near the Jones Road Ground Water Plume Superfund Site may be contaminated, a number of residents still rely on them for their drinking water. That was one takeaway from THEA’s November 10th meeting with the Cypress Community Coalition.
Residents got updates on the status of the Superfund Site, including the recent determination by the EPA’s Region Six Superfund Director that the agency’s plan for the location isn’t doing enough to protect people. Click here for a copy of THEA CEO Jackie Medcalf’s presentation.
State Representative Jon Rosenthal attended and talked to residents about the cleanup efforts.
The meeting participants included more than three dozen new participants, in part because of recent community outreach by THEA staff and volunteers. THEA has been involved in a “get the word out” campaign to let residents know about free air and water screenings that are available through a partnership with the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Those screenings will start in December. We are still taking applications. For more information, contact us at info@txhea.org.
