EPA Briefs Public On Union Pacific Railyard Testing

After years of community complaints about toxic contamination from old creosote operations at the Union Pacific Railyard, the EPA has stepped in to order widespread testing at nearby homes.  Representatives held two public meetings on Thursday, April 20, and Saturday, April 22, to outline its plans.  The EPA committed to extensive testing to determine the potential spread of dioxin and other toxic chemicals and to develop a remediation plan to protect residents in the Greater Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens.

We talked about the potential impact with U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, who has been working with Houston and Harris County officials to get the EPA more involved.

If you would like to watch the EPA’s meeting on April 20th, you can access it here.
