Great Night. Great Cause
THEA held an informal reception to talk about our work on Oct 10, 2023. The event was hosted by well-respected Houston environmental leader, Mary Van Kerrebrook. With one of the great views of downtown as a backdrop, we were able to see a lot of old friends and make some new ones.
This has been a busy year for us at THEA as we have tackled some of the most persistent environmental threats and toxic waste sites in the Houston-Galveston area. One of our goals now is to let more people know about our progress! The event gave us a chance to let more people know what we are doing to protect people’s health in our community.
THEA Board President Lisa Gossett, Directors Jennifer Anderson and Oscar Lazaro, and Founder/CEO Jackie Medcalf were able to share two very important announcements.
The first is a THEA initiative to respond to an emerging threat to our community, our neighbors and our families. New research indicates that, in addition to the large contaminated waste sites that are well known, our area contains several thousand smaller, shut down industrial sites containing toxic chemicals. As climate change produces more frequent and severe flooding, these sites will threaten a million people across our area.
The second is that our supporters have a rare opportunity to have a profound impact on our work. Through the generosity of the Kirk Mitchell Environmental Law Fund, THEA is able to double the donations we receive between now and the end of the year. The fund will match all individual gifts up to our goal of $100,000!
If you would like to help us expand our circle of supporters, we would love for you to introduce us to people who share our vision of a cleaner, healthier Houston. Please email info@txhea.org to let us know how we can work together to spread the word.
If you would like to take advantage of our matching offer to double the impact of your gift, please donate today!
